2019 Taichung city air quality Internet of Things (IoT) project

Absrtact
In response to the current development of Internet technology, the application of Internet of Things technology has also been beneficial, making inroads into some major fields. This project uses air quality sensors combined with the Internet of Things to create air pollution monitoring systems, which effectively provides real-time responses, to forward the goal of intelligent monitoring which involves observing and guiding the behavior of the air pollution monitoring system as well as ensuring clarity over the purpose and responsibilities of the audit. This project was expanded in 2019 with the deployment of 511 sensors. In the original pilot project of 350 sensors which were deployed to achieve 100% coverage of the Taichung administrative area. The coverage consisted of high, middle and low density distribution in industrial areas, major traffic routes, communities, auxiliary sensing (HePing zone) and standard station and performed parallel comparison, which currently contains a total of 861 sensors in Taichung, encompassing all administrative areas. Sensor measurement items mainly include PM 2.5, TVOC, temperature, humidity and ozone (O3), etc. Also there was the installation of 20 wind speed and anemometer sensors around the industrial area to ensure the air quality of people's living environment were up to standard. In response to the low-carbon environment, 10 green energy devices were also installed on the sensor. The plan follows the pilot plan and continues the standard operating procedures. Sensing data quality is controlled by regular inspections in parallel quarterly and is linked with corresponding comparisons. For the detection of obviously poor air quality, the device can be used for on-site simple maintenance or replacement of the backup machine to maintain the standard of data quality. The completion rate of the 350 new sensors was more than 90%, after they first uploaded the data on January 7, 2020, and achieved the goal of effective uploading. There were 3 sessions of air quality sensor briefings for the general public, environmental groups, etc. to better understand the operation of the air quality sensor. In addition, by creating Taichung exclusive sensor webpage, people can get real-time monitoring information. A total of four innovations were created this time, including using micro gas chromatography VOC to discover what are the main pollution components in the higher value area, providing 1 set of vehicle-mounted sensors and 10 groups of second-generation sensors, and using the original CMP service to know the abnormal status of each sensor in real time to achieve a more efficient Internet of Things information era. In summary, this project of the Taichung Air Quality Sensing IoT deployment plan has achieved various goals, and provided people with relevant air quality information and effectively improved the effectiveness of environmental management to create high quality living environments.
